We have recently learned that another nearby not-for-profit community music school, the Ridgewood Conservatory in nearby Ridgewood, NJ has closed after 26 years. We were all saddened to hear this as we know the importance of music education.
The Rockland Conservatory of Music, founded in 1956, has been welcoming students for over 68 years; so many of them started their music education here as very young children and continued through high school graduation…and beyond! A music school becomes a second home where students find like-minded peers and dedicated teachers with whom to share their love of music.
Research has shown time and time again that music education benefits students of all ages, particularly young people who are growing and developing. Children who participate in regular music instruction consistently do better in math, English and science.
When children practice their instrument, their screen time is limited, they engage more with family members…the mental and physical health benefits are numerous and have been documented in many studies throughout the United States and beyond.
Music education is always a good idea for everyone!
